After an intense debate over the Jammu Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019, Lok Sabha on Friday passed the bill.

During the discussion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah fired salvos at Congress and Former PM Jawahar Lal Nehru over the Jammu and Kashmir. He slammed Congress saying that the previous government did nothing to solve rift between people of India and the valley.

Slamming the former PM Jawaharlal Nehru, Shah said, ‘It was Jawaharlal Nehru who did it gave that portion(PoK) to Pakistan. You say we don’t take people into confidence, but Nehru ji did it without taking the then Home Minister into confidence’.

Lauding his government and PM, Shah said, ‘Narendra Modi Govt has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards terror and I am sure we will be successful in achieving it with the help of our citizens’.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill sought to give reservation in government jobs and educational institutions to those living within 10 km of the International Border in Jammu on a par with people living along the Line of Control in Kashmir.

While the Lok Sabha also approved to extend the President’s Rule in the valley for another six months beginning July 3.

Earlier in the day, Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill along with the motion of extending the President’s rule in the valley.

While moving the resolution of extending the President’s rule in the valley for the next 6 months, Shah said, ‘I propose that President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir should be extended by 6 months’

Promising the Lok Sabha of holding state elections by the year-end, Home Minister said, ‘In the view of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, preparations are underway to hold Assembly elections by the end of this year’.

The Political crisis in the Jammu and Kashmir occurred in June last year when PDP led Coalition Government was reduced to a minority in 87-member assembly after the withdrawal of support by 25 Bharatiya Janata Party’s  Lawmakers in the state.
