Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday asserted that all its 52 MPs will move ahead fearlessly and will not provide any walkover to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He added that all the newly elected MPs – 52 of them – a pride of brave-hearted lions.

Taking to Twitter Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, ‘The Congress Party may have just 52 Lok Sabha members, but we will work together like a pride of brave-hearted lions to protect our Constitution & Institutions & to fearlessly do our duty as the leading Opposition party. The BJP will have no walkover in Parliament’.

Earlier in the day, The Parliamentary Party meeting of the party was called to elect the leader of the House and to discuss the strategy for the first Parliament Session which is slated to begin from June 17.

Speaking in the meeting Gandhi further added that our ideological fight with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will continue. All 52 MPs, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and many top leaders of the party including Manmohan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad were present in the meet.

Rahul also said thanked the party workers and voters for reposing faith in the party. He said as quoted in a tweet by Randeep Surjewala, ‘Every Congress member must remember that each one of you is fighting for the Constitution, for every person in India irrespective of the color of his skin or belief’.

Earlier, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) elected Sonia Gandhi its Leader unanimously. This will be Sonia Gandhi’s fourth term as the Leader of CPP.

This was Rahul Gandhi’s second official meeting with the party leaders after the poll results. Earlier, he attended a CWC meet on May 25 where he taking moral responsibility of the defeat had offered to step down from his post. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.
