The recent remarks of Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee calling Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal ‘a cadre of BJP and Raj Bhavan as BJP’s party office’ has fueled the already going tensions between Mamata Banerjee and Tripathi.
Banerjee and Tripathi were having clashes over the communal violence in Baduria in North 24 Paraganas. Unrest triggered in the region when a Class X student allegedly put up a derogatory post on Facebook on Monday and responding to which protesters torched police vehicles, vandalised shops and blocked roads leading to the India-Bangladesh border demonstrating their anger, Internet services were also banned in the region.
Amid all of this, as per Mamata Banerjee, while she was having a conversation with the Governor, he insulted and threatened her over the phone, while Tripathi denies doing any such thing.
The tension again fueled up between the two after the remarks of Partha Chatterjee. Tripathi reacting to Chatterjee’s comment issued another statement saying that the government was only trying to disguise behind by raising such comments and is diverting from the main issue of law and order. He further added that “Raj Bhavan is not a department of the state government and it is open to every citizen to approach him for redressal of his or her grievances. It is wrong to say that Raj Bhavan has become the office of the BJP or the RSS.”
He accused Mamata Banerjee of charging false allegations on him and blackmailing the people of West Bengal.
To restore peace among the two Home Minister Rajnath Singh, held a meeting with Chief Minister and the Governor, however, no solution could be decided for the ongoing tension in Baduria.
