Xiaomi is starting to set up the wireless charging game. Xiaomi announced the new 80W wireless charging system that can fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 20 minutes. Xiaomi said that it can charge up to 50% in 8 minutes and 10% in one minute.

The last record for fast wireless charging of Xiaomi was 50W that came with Mi 10 Ultra. When the tech was tested, it was pretty impressive and managed to fully charge a 4,500mAh battery in around 40 minutes. Now, it will be exciting to see what 80W charging would be able to do in the upcoming phones of Xiaomi.

A tipster recently unveiled that smartphones with 100W wireless charging might get ready by 2021. Since Xiaomi has already touched the level of 80W, the goal to reach 100W is surely possible. Xiaomi has not unveiled any fixed timeline on when we will get to see the new wireless charging tech in action but it might come in the next Mi flagships like the Mi 11 series launching in 2021.

However, a question still arises regarding the battery draining as a result of this high-speed charging solution. Oppo, which is one of the smartphone companies using the fast wired charging said that the 125W charging tech decreases the battery capacity to 80% after 800 charging cycles. At present, we have to wait and see how Xiaomi and other smartphone companies would tackle this issue.
