Salman Khan‘s much-awaited movie ‘Tubelight’, which finally released in theaters on Friday, has opened to a positive response on day one. It might be getting some cold shoulder from the critics, its box office performance on opening day is hinting at a different story.

The Kabir Khan-directed film has managed to collect Rs. 21.15 crore on its opening day according to what trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Taran also tweeted comparing the day one collections of Salman Khan’s previous releases.

But on positive side, ‘Tubelight’ is on second position among top 5 openings of 2017.

Numbers are very good, but there are huge expectations when it comes to the opening day numbers of Salman Khan’s Eid release film. After all, the actor has been on a roll with 10 back to back Rs. 100/200/300 crore hits/blockbusters. All hopes were on afternoon and evening shows to get better. By that time though the word of mouth had spread that the film wasn’t as entertaining as one thought even with controlled expectations. This reflected in the occupancy towards the night shows.

‘Tubelight’, which is set during the Sino-India war in 1962, has been received well in Assam. However, the Muslim audience hasn’t yet turned up for the film due to Ramadan which has proved to be a dampener for the movie. This means the crucial test for the Kabir Khan-directed ‘Tubelight’ will be on Monday when the Bhaijaan fans will rush to the theatres with their Eidis.

I doubt that bad reviews will affect Tubelight’s box office collections. Even some critics gave bad ratings to Baahubali. You also have to note that Tubelight is a very unlike Salman Khan film. He has always played to the gallery, portraying larger-than-life characters on screen. Here he is playing a simpleton. Also, all Salman Khan Fans will surely go to watch movies no matter what reviews say,” Girish said.

The film has also got a galaxy of supporting actors including late actor Om Puri, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sohail Khan and Malayalam actor Isha Talwar. The film also stars Matin Rey Tangu and  Chinese actor Zhu Zhu.

We are waiting to see how much of the momentum does ‘Tubelight’ pick up next week!
