The University Grants Commision (UGC) has decided to add 123 new Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) for the upcoming July 2021 session. This includes 83 undergraduate level and 40 postgraduate level non-engineering courses. The access to this courses is available on the free online learning platform SWAYAM.

UGC wrote a letter to its affiliated universities and colleges requesting to encourage the students for making optimum of the SWAYAM courses. The list of newly introduced 123 courses is available on the official website http://Swayam.gov.in. The offered courses are ready for the July-October semester.

Completing this courses on the SWAYAM platform will grant academic credits to the student. This credits will add an extra merit in the academic results as well. Students from any college or university can avail this credit transfer benefit from the MOOC courses.

The new MOOC courses are introduced with the aim to encourage online learning and use of SWAYAM portal during the current scenarios of COVID-19 pandemic. The students can cover upto 40 percent of the course on this digital learning platform under guidance of faculties from IITs, IISCs, IIMs, etc.

As per the credit transfer guidelines of UGC, a student under any course will be evaluated on the basis of assessment tools such as discussions, projects, assignments, quizzes, viva and other activities. A detailed evaluation policy will be issued later by the UGC once the courses begin in July.

The Central government has recently launched the SWAYAM portal which stands for Study webs for active-learning and Young aspiring Minds. The portal is designed and operated by Ministry of education. The Portal aims to provide uninterrupted online learning and guidance to students while physical classes are shut.

Currently the platform offers online courses to students from class 9 upto post-graduation level. Learners can choose any MOOC course as per their convenience and interest. Students and teachers can also find best learning-teaching resources on the platform.
