SWAYAM is an platform providing the opportunity for self-actualisation providing ways for a life-long learning, putting forth virtually every course that is taught at the university/college/school level and these shall be offered by best of the teachers in India and elsewhere.

The courses provided are highly interactive, prepared by the best of teachers from all over the nation and are available, free of cost to the residents in India. The initiative has been taken by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the aim is to make the arms of education reach out to even the most remote areas pan India.

Courses available for certification

SWAYAM is providing the chance to take up various certification courses to the learners so as to impart skills along than on the trade of their choice. These courses can be taken up at any point of the learning path.

The framework for these courses is designed by the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). It is a competency-based framework that organizes all qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude.

    There are two courses available in this category- Indian Agricultural Development and Understanding Autism, Aspergers and ADHD.

    Indian Agricultural Development– The course is designed to describe the various phases of the Indian agriculture development starting from the prehistoric agriculture to the modern agriculture. It identifies the traditions, belief and agricultural practices followed by the Indian farmers. The course is delivered through 40 video lessons in a span of three months. Every week, learners will have to go through the video lessons.

    Understanding Autism, Aspergers and ADHD– This course was developed by the University of Derby to help raise awareness and encourage communication and education about autism, Asperger’s and ADHD. One of the most common childhood conditions, ADHD can continue through adolescence and into adulthood (NICE, 2013). In the UK alone, around 700,000 people are on the autism spectrum (National Autism Society,2016).

    The course provided under this category is Document Processing and organisation. The course covers various aspects related to processing and organizing documents in a library. It is divided into three parts, viz. Classification, Cataloguing and Filing and Shelving.

    The course provided in this category is Indian Agricultural Development. The course is designed to describe the various phases of the Indian agriculture development starting from the prehistoric agriculture to the modern agriculture.     There are three courses in this category- Hindi Bhasha SanrachnaPrachin Hindi Kavya and Basics of Russian: Communication Skills- Part 1.

    Hindi Bhasha Sanrachna– It is through the means of a language that we communicate. That is why the timing and placing of our words is important, so as to create the right impact. Hence, this course is developed to urge love towards language among the learners and prompt them to take initiative.

    Prachin Hindi Kavya– By ‘pracheen’, it is meant the age before technology. It truly was then when poetry was in its purest form. The course will be teaching poetry from Soor Das, Tulsi Das, Kabir Das, Jigyasi, Mirabai, Ghananand, etc.

    Basics of Russian: Communication Skills- Part 1– The aim of the course is to introduce learners to the basics of the Russian Language and gradually builds competence in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing with Russian cultural understanding. A communicative method of Teaching has been used for this course.

    The course available in this category is Basics of Russian: Communication Skills- Part 1 Theory. The Basics of Russian: Communication Skills- Part 1 (Theory) is 12 weeks course which aims at providing beginners with basics of Russian Language. The objective of the programme is to introduce learners to the basics of Russian grammar and phonetics so that they can listen, speak, read and write Russian in an accurate manner. The programme is bilingual (Russian/English) in medium and has Self Learning Material integrated with Audio Visual components, which will further enhance their learning capacity.

    The category entertains three courses- Environmental Studies IISustainable Management of Biodiversity and Indian Agricultural Development.

    Environmental Studies II– “Environmental studies for undergraduates” is a common core module syllabus for environmental science at the undergraduate level and is used by every university in the country. The environmental core module has been integrated into the teaching programmes of all undergraduate courses in higher education. The course will be stretching for minimum 13 weeks.

    Sustainable Management of Biodiversity–  This course provides an understanding of the concept and principle of biodiversity science. The course provides detailed information on the values of biodiversity, causes as well as current crisis, and consequences of biodiversity loss. The course provides the opportunities for biodiversity mainstreaming by stressing the role of biodiversity in achieving the SDGs.

Courses available for diploma

Learners with a Secondary School Completion Certificate are eligible to take up Diploma or Vocational Courses to enhance their skills in their trade of choice at SWAYAM. They can opt for Undergraduate courses after successful completion of the Diploma course.

There is, though, variations in the academic qualification prescribed for the trade from class IX to Class XII pass depending upon the trade. The tradewise prescribed qualification is given in the list of the trades covered under Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).

  • Computer Science (1)
