The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Sunday informed that the Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET exam will not be held for current academic session 2021-22.

This decision has been taken in the view of prevailing pandemic situations. UGC said that the implementation of this exam might be continued from the next academic session 2022-23.

The commision has released an official press note regarding this announcement. UGC has mentioned that in absence of CUCET exam, the admission process in universities will continue as per past practices.

The Ministry of Education prior to Second wave of COVID-19 infection formed an experts committee to analyse the Pandemic situations and consider to introduce the CUCET exam in 2021.

However, this committee found the situations to be unfavorable for conduct of any such exam. The committee then submitted its final report to the Ministry as well as to UGC for taking a final decision.

In the Report, the experts commitee mentioned that holding a National-level entrance exam will result in large gathering of students which might promote the infection of COVID-19 virus.

The conduct of exam will also force the students to travel in order to reach the exam centres which will increase the risk of viral infection to students, parents and other stakeholders, the report added.

Now as the CUCET is not being held, the UGC has asked all the universities and colleges to begin the admission procedure from August and commence the new academic session.

UGC has directed all the colleges to initiate the admission process only after declaration of Class 12 results. It must be noted that CBSE, ICSE and State boards are expected to announce this results till end of July.

The CUCET exam is a common entrance test for admission in undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes offered by central and state universities across the country.
