Even after the admissions of second cut-off list closed, SGTB Khalsa College, which has the highest cut-off for most subjects in the first list, has still got most of its seats vacant. To fill up seats, the college has dropped its cut-off drastically in the second list as there were absolutely no admissions from the general category on the basis the of first list.

As of yet, despite the significant drop in cut-off, the total number of admissions has not crossed 50, according to the sources, Other top colleges in the league, however, have had most of their seats and many have closed admission for various courses.

As the college reserves seats for Sikhs, even among the 50 seats filled, most are occupied by the minorities.“Most admissions are expected to take place after the third cut-off is released. Percentages will drop further from the second list,” said a faculty member. The college had dipped its percentages by up to 2% in some courses — much more than is the norm.

Meanwhile, other top colleges have packed up for most of the admissions. As a matter of fact, Hindu College has had to ‘over-admit students’, where it had the vacancy of admitting 752 candidates, it has made 870 admissions already. “This is not unusual because we have supernumerary admissions… In science courses, we see withdrawals when students want to join the engineering council or medical council,” said Anita Vishan, convenor of the admission committee. She continued to say that most admissions in the general category were done, but some courses still have vacancy expected to close down by the third list.

For both B.Com (Hons) and Economics (Hons), SRCC had closed down it’s admissions for the general category.

LSR College, too, will have admissions open in just four courses for the general category. “We will keep Psychology, English, Journalism and Political Science; all other courses are closed for general category. Even in these courses, most seats are filled. We are not going to drop our percentage by more than 0.25 per cent,” said LSR principal Suman Sharma.

Principal of Miranda House Pratibha Jolly said “around 750-800 out of 1,000” seats had been filled. “We will keep BA Programme open but some courses like Sociology, etc, will be closed,” she said.

Other colleges like Daulat Ram College and Kirori Mal have also filled upto around 70 seats.
