Mr. Uday Samant, the Technical Education Minister of Maharashtra has recently informed that a final decision on conducting State CET (Common Entrance Test) for non-professional courses has not been taken yet.

The admissions in all private and government colleges offering non-professional or conventional courses will begin after the declaration of Class 12 results of both Central and state Boards.

The minister said that government is considering two options for this admissions, first is either on the basis of CET scores and ranks or other is only on the basis of merit according to Class 12 results.

However Maharashtra CET for non-professional courses can only be conducted when situation of COVID-19 pandemic becomes much better and favourable then current status in the state.

Since the Class 12 Board Exams are cancelled, results of students are being prepared on the basis of internal assessments. Because of this, most student will score much better and will have nearly similar scores.

Thus conducting admissions only on the basis of 12 Result merits would be difficult for the universities and colleges. Also the Cutoff score for admissions would be comparatively very high which will increase the competition among students.

As per earlier updates, The CET for admissions in professional courses like engineering, pharmacy and nursing will be most probably held in the end of August, 2021. While the admissions in medical courses will only be based on NEET UG results.

Mr. Sawant has Said that the government has formed a state-level committee to analyse the situations and consider the possibilities for conducting the CET for both professional and non-professional courses.

The state has already instructed the universities to begin the preparations for admissions in order to avoid any further delay of the new session and the academic loss of students.

A finalised date for MHT-CET can only be declared after the results for Class 12 are out which seems to be declared by the end of July. Untill then admissions procedure in colleges cannot be started.
