The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University has collaborated with an US-based institution, the University of Arizona to offer Dual Degree programme in Life sciences for their students.

Amrita University’s School of Biotechnology and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine of Arizona University will work together to facilitate the functioning of this dual degree programme.

The students will receive two degrees under this programme, one from each university. Amrita University will offer M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology or Bioinformatics.

While the University of Arizona will offer the degree of MS in Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Both of this degrees are Masters in Science at postgraduate-level.

The University of Arizona will also allow the students enrolled under this dual degree programme to access its laboratories for research purposes.

In opinion of Professor Bipin Nair, the Dean and Faculty at Amrita School of Biotechnology, this collaboration is an strategic move towards empowering the academics and research excellence at both institutes.

While according to Carol C. Gregorio, Head of the Cellular and Molecular Medicine Department at University of Arizona, this merger has allowed the institutes to push thier boundaries in terms of education.

The collaboration will facilitate active interaction between international faculties and experts at both universities. The Arizona university finds this opportunity to be interesting and helpful for itself, He added.

For the University of Arizona, this step is a part of the university’s initiative to expand and promote the concepts of Arizona Health Science education across the US and the whole world.

While for Amrita University, the motive behind this collaboration is provide education and research facilities of International-standards while maintaining the values of Indian Education system.

Dr. Maneesha Ramesh, the Dean for international Programs at Amrita University, has remarked this joint initiative as an “strategically important step” to carve a brighter future and career of students.
