Uber Gets Aggregator License From Delhi Transport Dept For Running Premium Buses Source: LifeWire

Delhi Transport Department on Monday gave license permission to Uber to operate Uber Shuttle in the city. Uber became the first aggregator under the Delhi Premium Bus scheme. The air-conditioned (AC) buses will be run on the road by local fleet partners with support from Uber. Every Uber Shuttle would give rides to 19 to 50 passengers.

Using the ‘Uber Shuttle’ option on the Uber app, passengers can pre-book seats up to a week in advance as per their preferred route and schedule.

To give a premium touch and facilitate comfort to passengers, tracking of live location and route of the bus, other features like keeping a tab on expected time of arrival (ETA) through the app would be available.

The launch of Uber Shuttle in Delhi follows the successful pilot in Delhi NCR, where the company claimed to have seen demand for it. However, the same has been functional in Kolkata since last year under the MOU signed with the Bengal government.

“Uber Shuttle aims to provide tech-optimized mobility solutions using private bus fleets, addressing road congestion and reducing carbon emissions by encouraging shared rides,” the company said.

“Through a new option for commuters and creating a new source of livelihood for drivers, we are confident that this initiative will prove to be a win-win for all,” said Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle, India.

“We are pleased to extend an opportunity to Uber to utilize its global experience and technological prowess to contribute to an elevated commuting experience for the people of Delhi,” an official from the Transport Department, Government of Delhi, said.
