India’s President Ram Nath Kovind has on Wednesday promoted a stronger trade relationship between Croatia and India while addressing a joint business meeting in Zagreb, Croatia, during his official visit to the country.

According to ANI news reports, the joint business forum was attended by Croatia President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and chamber of economy president Luka Burilovic. Kovind, marking first Indian president’s visit to Croatia, was accompanied by a large business delegation which was comprised of 30 Indian entities.

While addressing the forum, Kovind underlined the strong ties and commitment from both sides towards deepening bilateral relations and economic linkages.

While highlighting the trade history between the two countries, Kovind said, I had productive discussions yesterday with Madam President and with Prime
Minister Plenkovic on how to take forward our multi-faceted bilateral ties. There is
immense potential to expand trade and investment profile and establish innovation,
research and start-up partnerships. Add to this, we have a rich trading past to
encourage and inspire us!”

Kovind stated that”we invite Croatia to partner with us” and further take advantages of the opportunity that India presents.

Furthermost, Kovind encouraged that bilateral trade ties have doubled during the last decade. He said, “We would like Croatia to collaborate with us in our flagship programmes – Make in India, Start-up India, Digital India.”

He added that India’s defence requirements are huge and “I invite Croatian companies to partner us in meeting our demands”.

Croatian chamber of the economy, the federal of Indian chambers of commerce and industry, the Confederation of Indian industry, and the association chambers of commerce and industry of India has organized the event.

Kovind is on a three-nation official visit to Chile, Bolivia and Croatia from March 25 to April 4.
