Bangkok, August 1: Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar met with his New Zealand and Thailand’s counterpart individually on Thursday during his visit to Bangkok to attend some ministerial summits and discussed key issues, including maritime cooperation and Indo-Pacific partnership.
According to NDTC news reports, Jaishankar arrived in the Thailand capital, Bangkok, to participate in numbers of key summits, including the 9th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum, and ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting.”

In a tweet, the EAM said: “Off to an early start. Warm meeting with #ASEAN Chair and India Country Coordinator, Foreign Minister of Thailand Don Pramudwinai. Discussed expanding our maritime partnership; BIMSTEC cooperation and partnering in ACMECS.”

He also held discussions related to issues on Indo-Pacific area with Winston Peters, the foreign minister of New Zealand.
After concluding the meeting with Peters, Jaishankar said in a tweet: “Very cordial meeting with Deputy PM & Foreign Minister of New Zealand @winstonpeters. Good conversation on our shared Indo-Pacific approach. Agreed to upgrade economic and political ties.”

In addition, after concluding the ASEAN-Indian ministerial meeting, Jaishankar said, “Just finished the #ASEAN-India FM Meeting. Had substantive discussions on furthering ASEAN-India strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific with a special emphasis on sustainability, connectivity & maritime cooperation. Congratulated Thailand again on its ASEAN Chairmanship.”
