United States national security advisor John Bolton has on Tuesday said Washington would look at imposing some fresh sanctions over North Korea if Pyongyang didn’t cease its nuclear weapon and missile program.

According to Reuters news reports, Bolton has told Fox Business Network, following the Hanoi summit between the US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, America would be seeing whether Pyongyang ensures its commitment to give up its “nuclear weapons program and everything associated with it”.

Bolton said, “If they’re not willing to do it, then I think President Trump has been very clear … they’re not going to get relief from the crushing economic sanctions that have been imposed on them and we’ll look at ramping those sanctions up in fact.”

Bolton’s remarks come days after the Hanoi summit between both countries’ powerful leaders broke down over large differences on how far does N Korea is willing to limit its nuclear programme and to ease sanctions.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency and two US think tanks reported on Tuesday, “(The North) appears to be putting back a roof and a door (to a Tongchang-ri facility).”

Two US officials sought to pressurize North Korea by reintroducing a bill on Tuesday, imposing fresh sanctions on any banks that cooperate business with North’s government.
