Washing all the doubts about the closing down of Uber Eats food delivery services in India, a senior executive of Uber, a ride hailing giant, clarified that the US-based company has no such plans to turn down Uber Eats, cited ET.

“It’s very early days for food, and I don’t think anyone has figured it out globally. Solving for a three-sided marketplace is a complex problem, and it will take a few cycles for the market to mature,” said Manik Gupta, chief product officer of Uber.

The clarification comes after Uber, in September this year, had announced to restructure its corporate holdings and brought its India business, including food delivery, under Uber India Systems.

Uber Technologies Inc. is an American multinational transportation network company (TNC) offering services that include peer-to-peer ridesharing, ride service hailing, food delivery, and a bicycle-sharing system.

The company is based out of San Francisco and has operations in 785 metropolitan areas worldwide. Its platforms can be accessed via its websites and mobile apps.

India is one of the fastest growing markets for food delivery in the Asia Pacific region, Gupta added.

Also, recently, top two executives of Uber Eats, Bhavik Rathod and Deepek Reddy resigned from their roles, which was a major blow to the food delivery platform.

“India constitutes about 12% of trips or transactions of Uber’s global volume, and is a very strategic market for us,” Gupta added.

“We haven’t made any decisions in terms of when we are going to do it, but it is definitely an area we are looking at, at the corporate level,” Gupta further stated.

Some of the food delivery giants, operating besides Uber Eats, include ZomatoFoodpandaSwiggyFresh MenuMasala BoxReady Bowl, and many more.
