The Supreme Court of India has yet to announce its order on the floor test of Maharashtra Government formation. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena- Congress – NCP showcased their strength in numbers on Monday night during which 162 MLAs pledged to form government in Maharashtra in a Mumbai Five star hotel.

The event was attended by top leaders of the three parties where an oath was administered to the MLAs to stay together and defeat the Fadnavis-Ajit Pawar government.  Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aaditya Thackeray represented Indian National Congress (INC) Interim President Sonia Gandhi in the parade.

BJP mocked the Maharashtra Opposition MLA Parade by saying their party will win the “photo finish” race during the floor test in the assembly. Addressing a press conference, BJP leader and former Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar taunted the Sena-NCP -Congress for “identification parade” of their MLAs and termed it as a cruel joke on the people of the state and democracy.

The former minister said “Identification parades are held to allow witnesses to identify criminals. We are sure that we will win the floor test in the assembly, whenever it gets convened. Such parades in a hotel will not help in proving the majority on the floor.”

He also hit at the Shiv Sena, the BJP’s one-time ally, for “forsaking” Hindutva and joining hands with the Congress, its ideological rival. “The way Shiv Sena leaders have joined hands with the Congress, it underscores how hollow it’s Hindutva has been,” said the BJP leader.

“You may have your photo, you may have your photographers there to show your strength, but it is the BJP who will win at the time of photo-finish under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis and (deputy CM) Ajit Pawar,” he said, indicating a tight race during the floor test.

This comes after Devendra Fadnavis formed an allied Maharashtra government with NCP Leader Ajit Pawar. Shiv Sena – NCP – Congress was not happy with the sudden turn of events, and filed a petition against the formed government attempting a floor test within 24 hours to avoid horse-trading and “illegal maneuvers” in Maharashtra. Supreme Court on Monday heard the petition but decided to pass the order on Tuesday at 10:30 am.

During the proceedings, a large gathering of Congress leaders and party workers on Monday carried banners and chanted slogans in front of the Parliament, demanding that BJP should “Stop Murder of Democracy”. The protest was led by Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi.

The fate of Maharashtra government rests in the Supreme Court hands, whether the Maharashtra government will be run by Fadnavis Government or it will fall to make a way for the Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP alliance government.
