SC Collegium recommended names of new Chief Justices for four High Courts including high courts of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pardesh and Telangana.

SC Collegium recommended the names of the new chief justices for four high courts including the ones in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi. The names recommended for the HCs include DN Patel as Chief Justice of Delhi, Justice AA Kureshi as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh, V Subramanian for Himachal Pradesh and RS Chauhan for Telangana HC respectively.

Justice Ramasubramanian, a Judge of the Madras HC, was practising as a judge of the Telangana HC. He was found suitable for the position of the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh by the SC Collegium after introspection.

Justice RS Chauhan, the acting Chief Justice of Telangana HC, was given the position of the Chief Justice of Telangana by the Collegium. The Collegium’s notice dated May 10 states, “Mr. Justice RS Chauhan is the senior-most judge from Rajasthan High Court and at present is functioning in Telangana HC as Acting Chief justice. having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr.Justice RS Chauhan is suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief justice of the Telangana HC. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly,” the statement read.

Justice AA Kureshi, the senior most judge from the Gujarat HC who is functioning at Bombay High Court was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. The position of Chief Justice fell vacant in MP HC after the retirement of Justice AK Seth.

Justice DN Patel of Jharkhand HC who has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Delhi was a senior puisne in Gujarat HC. The office of Delhi Chief Justice fell vacant after the retirement of Justice Rajendra Menon.
