Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday in a stern warning to Pakistan threatened that India would ‘choke’ the water supply to Pakistan in light of the Pulwama Terror attack. The latest warning from the Central Government comes on the backdrop of the February 14 Pulwama Terror Attack that claimed lives of 40 CRPF Personnel.

Addressing a gathering in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, Union Minister said that the water from three rivers entering Pakistan would be directed towards river Yamuna. He further said that a project is being worked upon to connect the three rivers to further explore the possibilities of transportation in these water channels.

“Bharat aur Pakistan hone ke baad, jo humari 3 nadiyan Pakistan ko mili thi aur 3 Bharat ko mili thi. Humare teen nadiyon ke adhikar ka paani Pak mein ja raha tha, ab uss par 3 project karke yeh paani bhi Yamuna mein wapas la rahe hain.” [Three of our rivers have been flowing into Pakistan. So water which we rightfully owned was going into Pakistan. Now we are planning to create a project and divert the waters of these three rivers to the Yamuna. So you can understand that there will be enough water in the Yamuna],” Gadkari said while inaugurating several water projects in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat.

The bilateral Treaty, signed in 1960, governs the rights of India and Pakistan on three of the six common rivers, respectively. Aper the agreement, India has full rights over Ravi, Beas and Sutlej rivers while Pakistan has full rights over Jhelum, Chenab and Indus.

Earlier, A Day after the Pulwama Terror Attack, the high-powered Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had revoked the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status granted to Pakistan.

Earlier, while commenting on the Pulwama attack, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said, “Saddened by the loss of life of our soldiers in Pulwama (J&K). The motherland will never forget the sacrifice of martyrs. My deepest condolences with the families who have lost their sons.” Union Minister said in a tweet.

Gadkari’s remarks came in the backdrop when India is making efforts to isolate Pakistan on the international level. India will urge the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) an international monetary watchdog, to blacklist Pakistan. India turned on the heat on Pakistan after the Pulwama Attack on February 14 as the organization – Jaish E Mohammad (JeM) that claimed the responsibility of the Terror Attack is Pakistan Based.
