Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra cabinet distributed the ministerial portfolio to the various leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (an alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress) on Thursday.  While the Sena has retained the major departments with itself like Home affairs, it has distributed other departments to the Congress and NCP.

Governor BS Koshyari has also given its nod to the portfolio allocation.

Major Portfolio allocation-

  • Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde will look after the affairs of Home, Urban Development, Environment, PWD, Tourism and Parliamentary works. 
  • Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai will lead the department of Industry, Higher and Technical Education, Sports, and Youth, and Employment.
  • Maharashtra Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat will be leading the charge of Revenue, School Education, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries department.
  • Nationalist Congress Party member Chhagan Bhujbal has been allocated the charge of Rural Development, Social Justice, Water Resources and State Excise. 
  • Nitin Raut has will take the charge of PWD Tribal development, OBC Development, Women and Child Development and Relief and Rehabilitation. 
  • Nationalist Congress Party leader Jayant Patil will helm the charge of Finance and Planning, Housing, Food Supply, and Labour department.

Maharashtra’s alliance government was formed on November 28 when BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis failed to prove his majority in the House.  The leaders were administered the oath of office and secrecy by the state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Shivaji Park.
