The press meeting of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which was slated for today, was canceled in the wake of the death of former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Stalwart Sushma Swaraj.

Om Birla was slated to address a press briefing today, which is supposed to be last day of the ongoing Parliament session. However, the press meeting was canceled in the wake of the death of BJP Stalwart Sushma Swaraj.

The Session of the ongoing parliament session was started from June 17 and was originally slated to end on July 26. However, the parliament session has been extended by the Union Government till August 7 to give a push to some important legislation.

Former External Affairs Miniter Sushma Swaraj breathed her last on August 6, Tuesday, in AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) Delhi. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Stalwart passed away because of sudden Cardiac arrest. She had in 2016 underwent treatment for her Kidney Failure.

She had opted out of the poll race from the national elections 2019 because of her illness.

Sushma Swaraj had been one of the tallest leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party and was the first woman to hold the full-fledged charge of the External Affairs Ministry.

She had served 4 terms in Lok sabha and had represented Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha Lok Sabha Seat twice during 15th and 16th Lok Sabha. She also holds the landmarking feat of being the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998.
