Arunachal Pradesh is witnessing fresh polling across 19 polling booths spread in eight districts in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Six polling booths in Arunachal Pradesh East Parliamentary seat and 13 in Arunachal West Parliamentary seat will go to polls owing to malpractices in the first phase of the elections on April 11.
During the first phase of elections in Arunachal Pradesh, EVM malfunctions, election malpractices, attack on polling parties and booth capturing were reported where polling for 60 assembly seats simultaneously with two Lok Sabha seats was held. The election officers sought Election Commissions direction on the fresh polling for the state.
In Arunachal Pradesh West parliamentary seat, three polling station each in Chayangtajo and Daporijo, two polling stations in Yachuli, One polling station each in Bameng, Liromoba, and Likhabali have been set.
On polling station each in Pangin, Kanubari, and Longding-Pumao, and three in Namsai have been set in Arunachal Pradesh east constituency where fresh polling is taking place.
Previously, the election observers and District Election officer have approached Election Commission of India to consider the proposals of repolling in Arunachal Pradesh on April 20.
The former chief minister and National General Secretary of Janata Dal-Secular JDS Gegong Apang sought the Election commission for free and fair conduct of elections. The election commission on Thursday announced the re-polling in 19 booths spread across the state.
Gegong Apang claimed that there has been no improvement in the EVM in spite of the governments reporting. He said that he is not satisfied with the EVM system as there are high apprehensions of malfunctions in the EVM and thus leading ot election malpractices. He also alleged EC of not making proper security arrangement and deploying the police officials from the booths.
