MTB Nagaraj

In what can be seen a breather for Congress amid the ongoing political crisis in Karnataka, one of the Disgruntled Lawmaker MTB Nagaraj on Friday said he will stay with the grand old party. The development comes after Congress Leader DK Shivakumar called on the Minister requesting him to reconsider his decision to resign from Karnataka Assembly.

It should be noted that Hoskote MLA MTB Nagaraj along with Chikballapur MLA Congress MLA Dr. K Sudhakar had resigned from the Karnataka Assembly on July 10.

However, after meeting the Congress Minster DK Shivakumar, Nagaraj said he will speak to K Sudhakar Rao and then see what is to be done.

Addressing the media after 3 hour-long meeting with DK Shivakumar, MTB Nagaraj said, ‘Situation was such that we submitted our resignations but now DK Shivakumar and others came and requested us to withdraw resignations, I will speak to K Sudhakar Rao and then see what is to be done, after all, I have spent decades in Congress’.

Both MTB Nagaraj and DK Shivakumar were seen hugging each other while speaking to media.

While Congress DK Shivakumar told media that he is happy with the MTB Nagaraj has assured him to stay with the party. DK Shivakumar, as quoted by ANI, said, ‘We should live together and die together because we have worked for 40 years for the party, there are ups and downs in every family. We should forget everything and move forward. Happy that MTB Nagaraj has assured us he will stay with us’.

It should be noted that the Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had not accepted their resignations saying that that it cannot be done ‘overnight’.

DK Shivakumar had earlier this week reached Mumbai to meet rebels. However, he was not allowed by Mumbai Police to meet and was later forcefully ‘deported’ to Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered Assembly Speaker to maintain status quo in connection with the resignation of 10 rebel MLAs of Congress and JD-S who tendered their resignation on Thursday. The Top Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that the Court will hear the matter again on Tuesday, July 16.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday last week when 11 MLAs from CongressJD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation. And thereafter political episode and drama started in Karnataka. Later on, many other MLAs also tendered their resignation taking the tally to over 15 till now.
