In his alleged involvement in the INX Media case, Enforcement Directorate arrested the former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram from Tihar Jail in Delhi today. It was also reported that during the arrest, former Finance minister’s wife Nalini and son Karti Chidambaram were also present in the jail.

Previously on Tuesday, Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar had allowed the plea of the ED seeking permission to quiz Chidambaram in the INX media case. He said, “It’s not in the dignity of this person that you interrogate and arrest him (Chidambaram) here in public view“.
CBI court had also turned down an application filed by Chidambaram seeking a production warrant against him in the case.
P Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the investigative agencies from his house in the national capital.
BACKGROUND OF INX MEDIA CASE-
In 2017, top investigative agencies of the nation had filed an FIR in connection to the alleged irregularities in fund clearance to INX media house through FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board). It was alleged that the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram inappropriately cleared the fund to the tunes of Rs. 305 crore to the company.
CBI is investigating the corruption allegations against P Chidambaram while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is inquiring into money laundering allegations in the case.
