The grand old party, Indian National Congress, has called a meeting of all its general secretaries today. The meeting is slated to be held at party headquarters, 24 Akbar Road, in the national capital.

The general secretaries of the grand old party are likely to discuss the leadership issue in the meeting. Almost a month after Rahul Gandhi stepped down from the top post, party till not failed to find a replacement for Gandhi.

It should be noted that many senior leaders, including Shatrughan Sinha and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, have openly backed the name of Priyanka Gandhi to lead the grand old year party.

Singh said he has no doubt that Priyanka Gandhi would get support from all file and rank across all states. He added Priyanka Gandhi is the only leader who is a good bet to replace Rahul Gandhi.

Prior to this Shatrughan Sinha also backed the name of Priyanka Gandhi for next national president of the party.

Apart from the leadership crisis, the top brass of the party, general secretaries, is also likely to chart out a plan to celebrate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi.

AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal last week has directed all the state units to reach out to the masses on 75th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with his idea of ‘Digital India’.

KC Venugopal also instructed the leaders to hold various other programs such as – Plantation Drives, Blood Donation Camps, Seminars – apart from traditional prayer meetings and floral tributes.

This will be the first meeting of party’s general secretaries after Rahul Gandhi officially stepped down from Congress President Post saying that he is responsible for the party poor show in the national elections 2019.

Rahul Gandhi, days after Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls, had on May 25 tendered his resignation in a CWC Meeting taking moral responsibility of the defeat. However, many leaders from the party tried to convince him but Gandhi remains unmoved and later on July 3 officially announced that it will be continuing as the party president.
