Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said that his government is looking for cooperation from Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government. His remarks came days before the budget session of the 16th Odisha State Assembly.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President had on Sunday called a meeting of all MLAs ahead of the budget session that is slated to begin from June 25.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Patnaik said, ‘In the coming budget session we will take up the promises we made to the people of the state and we are open for discussion on all issues’. He added that we look forward to cooperation from the BJP-led central government.

It should be noted that Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had earlier announced to support BJP nominee for one Rajya Sabha Seat. Earlier the BJD was among the first ones who extended the support to BJP nominee for the Lok Sabha Speaker post, Om Birla.

CM Naveen Patnaik had earlier met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 11. Reportedly Odisha Chief Minister sought an assistance package of Rs 5,000 crore for the state post-Cyclone Fani and also pressed a demand for giving the special status tag to the state.

The first session of the 16th Odisha Legislative Assembly will begin from June 25.

The First session will have 30 working days and will be held in two phases. The first Session will start from June 25 and will continue till July 2. While the second phase will resume from July 12 and will continue till August 8.

Newly appointed Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will table the Budget on June 28. While the Appropriation Bill on the budget for the year 2019-20 will be presented in the House on July 31.

The House will elect a deputy speaker on June 27.
