Bharatiya Janata Party President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held by the year. While moving the resolution of extending the President’s rule in the valley for the next 6 months, Shah said, ‘I propose that President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir should be extended by 6 months’
Promising the Lok Sabha of holding state elections by the year-end, Home Minister said, ‘In the view of Ramzan and Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, preparations are underway to hold Assembly elections by the end of this year’.

Shah had earlier this week was on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir reviewing the security arrangements. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Shah said, ‘We are monitoring the situation in Jammu & Kashmir. Construction of bunkers in border areas will be done within the time limit set by the previous home minister Rajnath Singh Ji. Life of every individual is important to us’.

Amit Shah also moved the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill along with the motion of extending the President’s rule in the valley.
Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill sought to give reservation in government jobs and educational institutions to those living within 10 km of the International Border in Jammu on a par with people living along the Line of Control in Kashmir.
Speaking about the Bill, he said, “this bill is not to please anyone but for those living near the International Border.”

The Union Cabinet had on June 12 approved the extension of President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Political crisis in the Jammu and Kashmir occurred in June last year when PDP led Coalition Government was reduced to a minority in 87-member assembly after the withdrawal of support by 25 Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lawmakers in the state.
Governor Satya Pal Malik had in November last year dissolved the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly citing reports of Horse-Trading. Earlier, President Rule was implemented in the valley after 6 months rule Governor ended on December 20 last year.
