After a nail-biting competition in the Maharashtra elections, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik insisted on a written assurance from the BJP regarding the implementation of 50:50 formula in the formation of next government in the state. Pratap Sarnaik is an MLA from Thane.

BJP secured the maximum number of seats in the state elections which stands at a figure of 105 seats while its alliance partner Shiv Sena won on 56 seats. Now the deal of 50:50 seems to be hanging on the edge as BJP failed to secure a clear majority of seats itself.

Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party came back to regain its credibility by winning 54 seats. Congress party managed to secure 44 seats.

As per the 50-50 formula, both alliance parties will get a chance to run the Maharashtra government. The formula was given by Union Minister Amit Shah during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

As quoted by ANI, MLA Pratap Sarnaik said, “In our meeting, it was decided that like Amit Shah had promised 50-50 formula before Lok Sabha polls. So, both allies should get a chance to run the government for 2.5-2.5 years and Shiv Sena should also have Chief Minister. Uddhav Ji should get this assurance in writing from BJP”.
