The Lok Sabha session on Tuesday began with uproar in the house over the issue of the recent attack on Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul was attacked on Friday during his visit to flood affected Dhanera town in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district. A cemented brick was pelted at Rahul’s car shattering its window glasses and black-flag waving crowds was shouting slogans in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress has alleged BJP and RSS to be responsible for the attacks. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had also accused BJP-led Gujarat government of deliberately ignoring the security protocols that need to be taken care of by the state government in cases like that of a political leader like Rahul Gandhi.

On Tuesday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement on this incident in the Lok Sabha. He said that adequate arrangements were made by the state government for Rahul Gandhi’s protection. The Special Protection Group (SPG) and the state police had repeatedly asked him to sit in a bullet proof car, but Rahul did not listen to them. He said that Rahul Gandhi repeatedly violated the security measures, he was getting away from the car again and again. Rajnath Singh said that this is not the first time that Rahul has ignored the security measures. He said that in the last two years, he has violated the security standards, about 100 times.
