After a meeting of senior leaders from Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee with the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi, the party stated that it is waiting for the political atmosphere of the state to turn around as the BJP and Shiv Sena is still struggling to seal a deal.

Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan, Balasaheb Thorat, Vijay Vadettiwar, and Manikrao Thackeray were the leaders who met Sonia Gandhi.

As quoted by ANI, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, “We met the Congress president and briefed her about the political situations in the state. We discussed in detail the result of Maharashtra elections including our defeats with a narrow margin on many seats“.

Speaking on the alliance with Sharad Pawar-led NCP, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat said that there are no such talks of this strategy yet.

There have also been speculations about the possibility of Congress allying with Shiv Sena. However, the leaders of the party seem to be divided on this plan. Some are supporting the grouping of Congress and Shiv Sena while others are seeing it as a setback to the interests of the Congress party.

Shiv Sena and BJP have been reported to lock horns over the power-sharing agreement in the state.  BJP has secured 105 seats while Shiv Sena sealed the victory on 56 seats. Shiv Sena is demanding the execution of 50:50 formula as iterated by Home Minister Amit Shah according to which power has to be shared between the two parties for a rotational basis.

However, BJP and Shiv Sena are seeking support from independent candidates to increase the strength of their numbers in the state assembly.

Speculations about the alliance of NCP and Shiv Sena is also going on amind the controversy of BJP-Shiv Sena tussle.
