In an interesting development on the Citizenship Amendment Act issue, leaders from the Bhartiya Janta Party in Kerala staged a walk-out from the all-party meeting on Sunday. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had called a meeting over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

It was reported that the Chief Minister Vijayan had called the meeting over the issue which saw participation of all political parties, religious and social organization leaders.

Pinarayi Vijayan had said in the meeting that the stand of determining the citizenship based on religion is against the constitutional provisions and violate fundamental rights.

The leader also shared a tweeted message giving the hints on the common stand of the meeting. The message read: “A united front will be put up against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The meeting of political, religious and social leaders, held in Thiruvananthapuram, has tasked me and the Opposition leader to plan future agitations against CAA.”

Previously on the day before, the state administration had also issued a detailed clarification that denied any plans to set up detention centers in the state.
