Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel

Speaking on the recent decision of Yogi Adityanath administration to not allow Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from crossing into Meerut, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the move was “undemocratic”. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were on their way to meet the families of the victims of the anti-CAA protests. Then they were stopped by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

In the violent protests of Meerut, two persons were killed and a police post was set on fire.

Bhupesh Baghel shared a tweeted message expressing his emotions over the incident. He wrote, “It is undemocratic to not allow honorable Rahul Gandhi Ji and Priyanka Gandhi Ji to meet families of those people who died during CAA protest in Meerut and to stop them on the way. The end of the dictatorship of the Central government and Yogi Ji is certain. Democracy will win.”

The nation witnessed violent protests last week against the citizenship law, which seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

On the related note, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLC MS Prabhakar said that his party is also against the CAA as this act targets the specific community. As quoted by ANI, he said, “In the Parliament, the TRS leaders did not support the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). We did not support this bill because BJP is targeting one community. Ours is a secular party and we want everyone to live happily.” He also said that the Union government should have discussed the bill with all the political parties before making it a reality.
