Former Madhya Pradesh Governor Aanadiben Patel on Monday took oath as Uttar Pradesh Governor replacing the outgoing Governor Ram Naik in the state. High Court Chief Justice Govind Mathur administered the oath to Anandiben Patel at the Raj Bhawan in state’s capital Lucknow.

Outgoing Governor Ram Naik also attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new governor.

Anandiben Patel is former Chief Minister of Gujarat. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for almost three decades. She was the Cabinet Minister for Education from 2002 to 2007. Later from 2007 to 2014, She served as the State Cabinet Minister of Road and Building, Revenue, Urban Development and Urban Housing, Disaster Management and Capital Projects in Gujarat Government. 

She was appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh in January 2018 replacing Om Prakash Kohli.

While earlier in the day, Phagu Chauhan was administrated oath as the 40th Governor of Bihar, replacing Lalji Tandon. Tandon has been now given the charge as Madhya Pradesh Governor.

Chauhan administrated oath by Patna High Court Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi at an official ceremony at Raj Bhawan. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Sushil Modi, among others attended the ceremony in Patna.

Chauhan had last week resigned from Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He is a six-time legislator from Ghosi Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh‘s Mau district. He first entered the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in the year 1985 contesting on Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Party (DMKP) symbol. Later in the year 1991, he won the seat again on a Janata Dal ticket.

He won the seat in 1996 and 2002 on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s lotus symbol. However, he had joined BSP ahead of 2007 polls to add the seat once more in his tally. He later returned to BJP fold to enter the Uttar Pradesh Assembly sixth time in March 2017.

Paghu Chauhan was among the 6 governors who were appointed by the Central government on July 20.
