TikTok is launching its first TV app, called “More on TikTok,” on Amazon Fire TV devices today. The app will have video playlists and interviews with famous content creators.

Nick Tran, head of global marketing for TikTok said “We’ve been thinking through what the adoption of streaming devices like Fire TV means for connecting with our users and how we can offer them more dynamic experiences. We feel bringing our content to the TV to some extent is a natural next step,”

This app is more of experimentation by TikTok as they are looking to see if their mobile video format can do well on a big screen. You wouldn’t require to log in or sign up to view videos on this app. You cannot upload videos also. This app is just to view and enjoy the content provided to you.

Amazon says it saw a sharp increase in usage for mobile-first Fire TV apps like Facebook Watch, Peloton, MasterClass, and Audible during the first six months of the year. Mainly due to people staying home during the coronavirus pandemic.

“People are looking for the community right now and TikTok is connecting users to content and people that resonate and are meaningful to them,” TikTok’s Head of Global Marketing Nick Tran said in a statement.

The More on TikTok app is now available via all Fire TV devices in the US. Users can just say “Alexa, open More on TikTok” to activate.

Given the current situation, where the USA is looking to ban the usage of TikTok because of its relation with China. Microsoft is trying to acquire TikTok from its Chinese parent company ByteDance.
