In a bid to restrict its citizens from gambling abroad or pursuing gambling related business overseas, China has taken help of Big Data, said Chinese officials.

Big Data is extremely large data sets that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behaviour and interactions.

Ms. Ji Lixia, Deputy Director of Beijing Immigration Inspection, in a press brief, stated that Big Data detects such people at border and prevents them from going abroad for gambling or gambling related business. The authorities have also placed sanctions on such Chinese nationals.

It is noteworthy that China earlier this week had formed a blacklist, where destinations such as Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia etc have been banned as tourist destinations as they attracted huge crowd of Chinese nationals for gambling business and casinos.

The Indian Wire had earlier reported efforts of the nation in combating cross-border gambling, where the government officials warned Chinese travellers to refrain from participating in gambling activities abroad. In pursuance of the same Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China, had created the system of Blacklisted destinations.

Reportedly, China also has a web-portal where general public can report telecom frauds and cross border gambling. The web-platform was unveiled by China’s Ministry of Public Security in June this year.
