Google Pixel 4

Google Pixel 4 is expected to be released in the second half of the year and rumors and speculations regarding the smartphone have already started to surface online. In February, commit changes in Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Gerrit suggested that the new Pixel 4 will come with improved dual-SIM support. While the report was not that revealing in terms of specifications about the phone, it was the first report to come from a trusted source, offering something concrete about Google’s next flagship smartphone.

Now, Google Pixel 4 has been spotted again in commit changes on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Gerrit regarding an issue spotted in the Linux kernel. This recent spotting has not revealed anything interesting about the device either, however, it indicates that the next flagship device from Google is under testing.

Spotted by 9t05Google, the new commit on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Gerrit by a Google employee dated April 2 addresses the issue related to fixing “false positive KASAN warning on suspend/resume”.  KernelAddressSanitizer, KASAN for short, is a dynamic memory error detector. It is used to find solutions for finding use-after-free and out-of-bounds bugs in Linux kernel that send false positive. Simply put, these bugs send error reports when there is no such issue existing in the first place.

Regarding the commit with reference to the Pixel 4, a Google spokesperson said “The plan was to first deploy this on Pixel 3 and make sure that everything actually works. Then move on to Pixel 4 and so on. If I had a Pixel 4 device, I probably wouldn’t have bothered with 4.9 in the first place”. The information provided runs short of substantiality and holds less importance according to a user’s perspective, nevertheless, it does suggest that Pixel 4 is being tested among Google’s developer group working on resolving the issue.

Pixel 4 is still months away from official release and so far there have not been any concrete piece of information regarding the specifications of the device. In February, a commit change in AOSP revealed that Google Pixel 4 will come with true dual-SIM functionality by bringing support for Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) protocol. It was followed by an alleged schematics of the smartphone revealing a Galaxy S10+ like camera hole, but without a chin and minimal bezels around the side. The schematics suggested dual front and rear cameras and an in-display fingerprint sensor on the Google Pixel 4.
