The first trailer of Netflix’s ‘The White Tiger’ released a couple of days ago, the trailer gives us a satirical setting highlighting the divide present in Indian society. The film is an adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s award-winning novel of the same name, the film stars Adarsh Gourav, Rajkummar Rao, and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Written for the screen and directed by Rahmin Bahrani, the film’s original language is English, shot in Delhi and Bangalore.

Narrated by Balram Halwai (Adarsh Gourav), the film’s plot revolves around him as he shares his epic and highly humorous rise from poor villager to successful entrepreneur in modern India. Smart and ambitious, the young hero makes his way into becoming a driver for Ashok (Rajkummar Rao) and Pinky (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), who have just returned from the US.

A still from The White Tiger

Society and the surrounding have trained Balram to be one thing a servant and to follow the ways that have been structured and maintained, so he makes himself indispensable to his rich masters. Soon when he feels being betrayed, he realizes the corrupt lengths they will go to trap him and save themselves. On the verge of losing everything, Balram fights against an unequal system to rise up and become a new kind of master.

The trailer is quite interesting and introduces various characters that mark up the concept of the story. Though an adaptation, the story feels highly real considering its connection with the real world. It seems to be an entertaining as well as a surreal story.

The White Tiger will be releasing this December in theatres and will be streaming on Netflix in January.
