Shahid Kapoor has turned producer with Raja Krishna Menon’s next directorial based on the life of legendary Manipuri boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh. The film will also feature the actor in the titular role.

It was supposed to go on floors in January this year but got delayed because the makers are still working on the script. Now they plan to start filming later this year.

A source close to the development revealed, “Now, they have joined hands to produce the film. It will be shot primarily in Manipur, besides Delhi, while an international schedule is also being planned,” the source added, blaming the initial delays to several rewrites. “It’s a difficult script to write, so it has taken time, but it will go on the floors this year. Raja is currently putting the research together with his writers.”

Dingko Singh hails from the North-eastern Indian state of Manipur. He is an Indian boxer who won the gold medal at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok. In 2013 he was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India.

Besides Dingko Singh biopic, Shahid is also busy with the Hindi remake of Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy‘ titled ‘Kabir Singh‘. Kiara Advani is playing the female lead in the film. It is written and directed by Sandeep Vanga and jointly produced by Cine1 Studios and T-Series. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 21 June 2019.
