Before getting to the review of Sadak 2 let us recall what happened at the time of its trailer and music release, it received hate from all the possible ways. Dislikes, hatred comments, etc made the film trend negatively on social media but out looking the content such actions still cannot be justified. Remember Judwaa 2? I would still consider that film to be the worst sequel ever made on this planet but I don’t know how it broke big box office records. The actions of dislikes and hatred cannot be justified that’s for sure and now without wasting any time let me tell you what Sadak 2 is all about.
The 1991 film Sadak was not a unique plot but what made it a classic hit was the strong on-screen performance by the cast including Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt, or the unmissable Sadashiv Amrapurkar as the evil Maharani. But after 30 years the sequel to that film, Sadak 2 seems to be an outdated version inspired by Indian daily soaps. Let me introduce you to the characters and I leave up to you to decide why I mentioned the daily soaps.
Dutt now older yet attractive reprised his role as the sole yet strong taxi-driver Ravi who has lost the purpose of his life. And Alia Bhatt as Aarya needs desperately to hit the road, for the first time I felt Bhatt as a weak performer. The supporting cast isn’t too on point either, Jisshu Sengupta is here as Aarya’s father, with Priyanka Bose as her sinister mother depicting what and why who knows! Makrand Deshpande gets a chance to portrait a mad version as a ‘dhongi baba’. Gulshan Grover briefs up at some parts.
Let me clear, the premise of Sadak 2 is not old-fashioned although it can go on for years but if accompanied with a good enough script. The script falls weak with no recall value scenes, dialogues, or twists. The characters are good for nothing introduced just for the sake of cinema, it feels, the story falls apart with nothing much interesting or engaging for the viewers. A girl accompanied by her lover (Aditya Roy Kapoor) and Dutt as a guide sets for a journey to expose the frauds of dhongi babas playing with the faith of people makes up for a good story but Sadak 2 ends up being a terrible one.
It was quite interesting when Mahesh Bhatt announced this film with Alia, probably one of the finest actors of the current generation and we were quite excited about the outcome but it is definitely not Sadak 2 let’s wait again for something good.
