Last month in the end of March, 2019 a female teacher filed a plea in Delhi High Court against the dis-allowance of maternity leave. According to the opposition lawyer, the woman is a temporary professor in the Aurobindo College of Delhi University. The lawyer further said she had dissolved her temporary membership in the college on 18th of March, 2019 so the varsity is not responsible towards her anymore.

This is not the only case filed against the Delhi University’s dis-allowance of maternity leave. Last year in the month of December, the members of different colleges falling under the shed of Delhi University had made a 20 members committee. The members including Academic Council (AC), Executive Council (EC) and Principals of several other colleges. They filed a combined plea to the Delhi Administration for the allowance of Maternity leave to the ad-hoc female professors but the plea wasn’t answered, one of the members of the committee shared.

According to the Maternity (Amendment) Bill 2017, the allowance of 26 weeks leave should be given to the permanent woman employee or the woman, who has worked for 8 weeks or more in the organisation.

The Delhi court for now has postponed the hearing date to 10th April, 2019. This is to see will DU Administration change their policy in favour!
