The Delhi University has been procrastinating the formation of a governing body in government-funded colleges, putting the Delhi government in dilemma whether it should continue funds to these colleges or withhold them. There is a sum of 28 colleges in the varsity that are funded by the government.

Where 16 of them only receive 5% grant from the government, rest given by the UGC, there is a lot of 12 colleges which are fully funded by the government. A government official said, “We are seriously considering stopping funding to all DU colleges. Why should we give money to them when our governing bodies cannot be constituted?”

The government, back on June 8, made it clear that the university must speed up with the notification for the governing body and soon commence with the appointment of new staff in these colleges “only after constituting a new governing body”. Failing to adhere to this demand, government-funded colleges at DU stand in the circle of trouble.
